In one sentence
A product detail page is the page for a single product, with its photos, description, specs, price, reviews and buy button, and it's the page that answers whether this product is right for the shopper.
What to include on a product detail page
- Clear photos from every useful angle, plus the product in use
- A title that names what it is, with the key attribute
- A description that says who it's for and what problem it solves
- Specs: size, materials, fit, compatibility, care
- Price, variants, stock and delivery estimate
- Reviews and answers to common questions
How to write a product detail page that converts
Lead with the answer to "is this right for me?" Shoppers scan for their situation: their size, their use, their budget. Put that near the top in plain sentences, not only in a spec table.
Answer the questions that block purchase: shipping cost, returns, sizing and how it compares to similar products. Every unanswered question is a reason to leave.
Why product detail pages matter for AI search
When a shopper asks an AI assistant about a specific product, the product page is often the main source. Clear copy and product schema help the assistant get your price, stock and features right.
Pages that only list specs give the assistant little to quote. Pages that explain who the product is for give it a reason to recommend you.
PDP FAQs
How long should a product description be?
Long enough to answer what shoppers ask before they buy. For a simple product that's a short paragraph. For a technical one it can be much more, broken up with headings.
Should I use the manufacturer's description?
Write your own when you can. Copied text appears on many stores, so it gives search engines and AI no reason to pick your page.
Is a PDP the same as a product page in Shopify?
Yes. Shopify calls it a product page. The term PDP is the same thing.
