In one sentence
Named, not named is how Selix reports AI visibility: for each shopper question and each AI engine, whether the answer named your brand or not, with no scores, estimates or simulated results in between.
How Selix reports named and not named
Selix asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity the shopper questions you track. For each question and each engine, it records what came back:
- Named: the answer included your brand.
- Absent: the engine was checked and didn't name you.
- A dash: that question hasn't been checked on that engine yet.
Nothing is estimated or simulated. Every cell is a real answer.
Why Selix uses named, not named instead of a score
A shopper either hears your brand in the answer or doesn't. A visibility score blends that into a number that's hard to act on. Named, not named shows exactly which questions you're winning and which you're losing, on which engine.
It also tells you what to fix. Every Absent is a question to answer better.
How named results add up to answer share
Answer share is the share of your tracked questions where at least one engine named you. A question counts once, however many engines name you, so the total always matches the question-by-question view.
Named, not named FAQs
Why does an answer say Absent one day and Named the next?
AI answers change from run to run. That's why Selix tracks the same questions over time: the pattern matters more than any single check.
Does named mean recommended?
Not always. Named means your brand appeared in the answer. Read how it described you too, because being named next to a complaint is different from being the top pick.
Which engines does Selix check?
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity.
